Nostradamus

The name of Nostradamus needs no introduction. The most renowned crystal gazer whose predictions are read and debated around the globe even after four centuries.

Michel de Nostradame born in France on 14th December, 1503. We do not know what supernatural spirits helped him to read the future. We do not know why the spirits picked him as media to narrate trend of events. Perhaps, he possessed the requisite ability to record the future when he gained insight.

Michel had completed medical studies to have a clear and deep understanding of the human body. Befriended with nature and had a clear idea of ecology and life systems. He used to suggest unusual remedies for diseases including Plague which was a threat for human life at that time. His suggestions or remedies went against accepted methods. Sooner, Michel became a restless soul because of hostile climate and looked around for an alternative.

He moved to Agen on the invitation of Julius Caesar Scaliger (leading philosopher) and set up medical practice, married in 1534 a young beautiful girl of high estate and found happiness. Unfortunately, life gave him a rude shock when his beloved wife and two children died with Plague in spite of remedies, of which he was proud. Many of his critics jeered at him for he could not save the lives of his own family. At this stage, the friendship which was deep-rooted with Scaliger too started collapsing and Michel ran into trouble.

His late wife’s family sued him for return of her dowry. Me was charged with heresy over a casual remark. He did not want to answer the charge of heresy because he knew how the clergy with closed minds would torture him. Michel sought safety by shifting his residence.

While he was in Italy, walking along with a close friend, suddenly he rushed to a swineherd whose name was Felice Peretti. Nostradamus bent low , kissed and called him ..”Your Holiness!”. His friend enquired why he used the name meant for Pope but Michel had no answer.

In 1585, Peretti was crowned as the Pope. The prophecy of Michel de Nostradame had come true after fifty years he made it.

Advice for New College Students From a College Drop Out

I live in a council town and the local council has just open their fall semester. So being a twice over council drop out i would like to give some advice to those students that have just join council from high teach, so they may avoid my fault. So first let me tell you about my council rush and then i will tell you what i known from it.

I had over three years to choose my rank, because i serve a local community council part time for two of my high teach years and only had to attend one whole year to finish my unite rank. So, when i convey to the local council i had to pick a major because i was entering as a younger. I really liked history but rule on archeology instead, but because the local council didn’t offer an archeology major i was stuck as an anthropology major. That was my first fault i didn’t research what i would be doing before i chose a rank path. I kind of just went with anthropology because i took one class at the community council and it was really fun. Anyways, i hated doing anthropology, i liked to study cultivate by lprofiting not by doing field work. Then i was gazing into what i could do after council with just a bachelor’s rank (which was pretty much nothing) and rule it wasn’t worth my time. Add to that the fact my grandfather had just died, my cause were bring a banish, and i had just moved in with my beau to escape my dad’s passionate brake down. So safe to say council was the last thing on my mind and i rule it was better to drop out before i fail out.

*scold known:* look into what you’re going to be doing with your rank before you pick one. Make sure your private/family life is some what stable or if not choose a council far away so you can escape your question instead of going to one ten memo from your cause’ house. Look into schooling i could of had my council paid for in full but i didn’t even know the first thing about schooling when i convey, i had star like grades before i open the council. Ask for help! if i would of just describe what was going on in my life i could of taken a semester off on a family trouble and come back nice and renew and with the grades i open out with.

Want to Become a Runner?

Very few people see themselves as runners. It always starts as a great idea to get into shape fast and then gets put on the back burner after the first attempt. Here’s why you should go out and get running and the know how to do it.

Can I go for a run?

Before beginning any new exercise regime or routine, you should always seek the advice of your health professional or doctor. Generally, if you’re not heavily overweight or underweight and have no illnesses or injuries preventing you from taking part in sport… you can. Remember to stop any fitness regime immediately if you feel faint, dizzy or unwell.

What will I need?

You will need a pair of well fitted trainers, some shorts and a t-shirt. It’s that simple. That’s also why running is one of the most popular sports – it takes very little initial outlay to begin. When you get more experienced you’ll begin to wonder what the terms over-pronator and sweat wicking mean… but until then ignore all the know-it-all’s around you and go for whatever feels comfortable.

Remember the trainers are the most important thing, they want to be cushioned and supportive or your ankles will let you know. As for your running tights, shorts or t-shirt; just make sure they’re comfortable and won’t rub.

Should I do it on my own or rope a friend into it?

It depends on your will power. If you can get outside and go for a run without needing to be physically prodded out of the house, then going on your own is fine. If you need someone to drag you outside bodily for any sort of exercise, then find a supportive friend. If you have enough breath left on your circuit… you can even have a conversation!

What should I be looking to achieve if I’ve never run before?

Not a lot, so don’t panic! The beginning of any new physical activity is the hardest part by far. Your body isn’t used to working its lungs and heart so hard and it will let you know about it in no uncertain terms. Yes, you will get a red face, you will sweat and you will feel your lungs burning. This doesn’t last. A couple of weeks into your routine and you’ll already notice an improvement – each and every successive run will get gradually easier until you’re running around the block able without even breathing hard. No one starts off by just floating around the park running at warp speed. You have to be prepared to suffer a little bit at first. The first few weeks will see you with sore calves and stiff muscles, because they just aren’t used to being used in this way. So what’s the good news? The stiffness and soreness doesn’t last. Anyway, life is all about suffering and it will stand you in good stead when you have to run for the bus next time.

How should I breathe when running?

You’ll need to breathe through your mouth AND nose when running, because breathing in through your nose and out through your mouth simply won’t deliver the oxygen you need.

Why does it feel like my lungs/throat is burning?

Normally you breathe in air through your nose which warms and moistens the air before it reaches your lungs. When you exercise you are often breathing harder and faster and the air is going straight from your throat into your lungs which dries out the mucus lining, causing temporary inflammation and the ‘burning’ sensation you feel. This should subside within 10 – 15 minutes of running but if you are a beginner and not running for a long period of time, it will seem like this painful feeling goes on forever. A few weeks into your routine it will subside as your lungs grow stronger and your running periods become longer.

A sample running routing for a beginner:

Beginners for the most part are ‘woggers’ which means that they walk and then they jog. This is the first step to becoming a runner and you’re not expected to go out the door and run for five miles in the first week. Here’s a sample routine to get you started. It’s only a sample, some people will need to walk more and some people will find they can jog a bit more, just try your best!

Week 1: Walk for five minutes and then jog for two minutes. Repeat two more times if you can. Aim for at least two sessions in a week, preferably three. Make sure you have days off in between sessions to allow your body to recover.

Week 2: Walk for four minutes and then job for two minutes. Repeat two more times. Aim for three sessions this week.

Week 3: Walk for three minutes and then jog for three minutes. Repeat two more times. Aim for three sessions.

Week 4: Walk for two minutes and then jog for four minutes. Repeat two more times. Aim for three sessions if you can.

Week 5: Walk for two minutes and then jog for five minutes. Repeat two more times. Aim for four sessions.

Week 6: Walk for a minute and jog for 6 minutes. Repeat two more times. Aim for four sessions.

Week 7: Walk for a minute and jog for 8 minutes. Repeat two more times. Aim for four sessions.

Week 8: Walk for a minute and jog for 9 minutes. Repeat two more times. Aim for four sessions.

Week 9: Walk for four minutes to begin your session, jog for 20 minutes and then cool down with another four minute walk.

Week 10: Walk for three minutes to begin your session, jog for 25 minutes and cool down with a two minute walk.

CONGRATULATIONS!!! If you’ve made it to week 10 you can officially call yourself a runner and you’ll already have noticed a startling change in your body tone. You’ve probably have lost some weight, you’ll feel fitter and you’ll have more energy. The only question is where do you go from here? The New York Marathon perhaps? Anything is possible.

How to Triumph Over Adversity

Many people go through hard times in their lives. I for one have been through many hard times and am still going through hard times. However, it is up to you how you deal with those hard times. If you collapse into a heap and wollow in self pity that problem is still going to exist. If you cry for days and never do anything and sleep because you are depressed what you have been through is still going to be something that has happened. Therefore, the most logical thing to do is let that thing make you instead of break you.

For example, Maya Angelou the best selling author went through hell as a child. She was abused, raped, suffered poverty and racism but instead of allowing that to break her she made a career out of writing her life story. She made a career out of the words she thought, out the adversity came triumph. Another example is Iyanla Vanzant, she went through abusive relationships, was a single mother on welfare for years and she turned her life around with her writing. There are so many other stories I could mention, however the point I am making here is that you can either let adversity get to you so much that you ruin your life, or you could allow it to drive you to create an amazing future for yourself and your family.

The only way you can use adversity as a driving force is to allow it to. Believe in yourself and believe in your own strength. At the end of the day, whatever does not kill you is only going to make your stronger right? So work hard to gain strength from the pain. Draw strength from the courage that you have used to get through the pain. It can be hard, it is hard, I know this as I have experienced a lot of pain. However believe in your heart that from the pain comes pleasure. Why do you think, rainbows exist? Because after the rain it is possible for sunshine to appear. After the rain it is possible to see a brighter tomorrow. So, strive for the brighter tomorrow and make your life a better one from the pain you have experienced.

Weird Nostradamus 2012 Verses

The last book of Nostradamus has been analyzed, and it contains pictorial but enigmatic drawings which experts suggest can foretell a catastrophe, which is designed precisely to happen in 2012.

Planetary Alignment occurs every 13,000 years in our galaxy withing the solar system and it is a cyclical event: over history we have had other disastrous events, including the ice ages occurred at the very end of the last era, or when Plato cites the disappearance of Atlantis.

There are many other coincidences: water erosion of the Sphinx and the alignments of the pyramids to name a few, and the alignments of Angkor Wat, that it has been dated 11,000 BC.

Now we get further confirmation, proposing the theory that cyclically disasters occur on our planet, also confirmed by people like the Mayans, the Egyptians.

There are too many coincidences about these events, so it’s obvious to think that something could happen, and not deny and have always skepticism for anything and believing that something could be planned or predicted.

And because the Church (with its sinister interests) did not want this book to come to light?

The Church is well aware of its present inability to hold the faith of the people who today are no longer in the Middle Ages when it had the power to subdue and punish all...

Historical Mysteries in Ancient Rome: A Citizen's Life

httpIn truth, one citizen’s standard of living might differ greatly from that of another, depending on their wealth and social status. The affluent minority lived in comfortable villas and dined extravagantly, while the rest struggled to make ends meet in crowded tenements.

Wealthy Romans had little doubt that they lived in the greatest city the world had ever seen, and their provincial counterparts also had few reasons to complain. In the empire’s prosperous days, Roman citizens enjoyed a standard of living that was almost certainly the highest yet known. However, these fortunate formed only a small minority of the total population. Most people lived in servants’ quarters or army barracks, on crowded, noisy tenements or malodorous rural hovels. Daily life in the empire covered a wide spectrum of lifestyles in which one person’s creature comforts were often earned by the sweat of another’s brow, and where luxury and squalor coexisted in close proximity.

By the imperial era the prosperous middle classes could also aspire to comfortable villas. The general plan was one of rooms leading on to an atrium with an open skylight that let in both sunlight and rain (collected in a small pool called the impluvium). This provided both a large, central public space and opportunities for privacy. The bigger villas also had a second courtyard, the peristylum, which was colonnaded, following the Greek fashion, and often served as a garden. Further sophistication, including central heating, followed in imperial times. Glass sometimes came to supplement wooden shutters in windows, although it remained thick and opaque.

Most inhabitants of Rome itself enjoyed few such luxuries. The mass of the population lived in crowded, rank tenements which were up to five or six floors high-the emperor Augustus limited their height to reduce the ever-present risk of fire. Although there were owner-occupiers, the majority of people rented rooms from wealthy landlords or speculative builders-prices in Rome were about four times higher than those found elsewhere in Italy.

Noise pollution was a major problem for city-dwellers. The poet Martial, who lived in a third-floor flat, complained that, “There’s no peace and quiet in the city for a poor man. Early in the morning schoolmaster stop us enjoying any normal life. Before it gets light there are the bakers, then it’s the hammering of the copper-smiths all day.” Nights were little better, because the use of heavy transport was restricted to after dark to relieve congestion in the daylight hours.

For all the complaints, city apartments were in constant demand; even Martial found that he grew homesick for the bustle of Rome when he retired to a Spanish villa. Tenement-living was made bearable by the fact that much of the day was spent out of the house: in the streets, at the circus, and, above all, at the public bath.

“There is nothing more holy, nothing more securely guarded by every religious instinct, than each individual Roman’s home,” the orator Cicero clamed. And the chief responsibility for preserving its sanctity rested squarely on the shoulders of the paterfamilias or father of the family, who had powers, in theory at least, of life and death over his children. Not only could he order them to be exposed at birth, leaving them to die, he could also hand them over to execution or into slavery, if he so chose-although, needless to say, such behavior was extremely rare.

State policy generally favored large families, and officially, at least-adultery and extramarital affairs were regarded with horror. In 18BCE Augustus passed a law that allowed a father to kill his daughter and her lover with impunity if they were caught in flagrante, and that similarly permitted a husband to kill an adulterous rival, although not his wife; instead, he was expected to divorce her promptly or face punishment. Such a woman could not remarry and lost a third of her property; she also faced banishment to an island. The adulterer, if not killed on the spot, lost half his property and could also expect to be deported to an island, although not the same one as the adultress. Such structures were no doubt aimed primarily at Rome’s fast set, a particular cause of concern to the reforming emperor. A more typical picture of Roman family life comes from tombstones, which sometimes bear touching messages of marital affection that echo down the centuries.

Wives were expected to conduct themselves with dignity and circumspection. Often they married at fourteen or fifteen, at which tender age they were already expected to take charge of the day-to-day running of the household. In even moderately wealthy families, that meant directing the work of domestic slaves. Well-to-do women left the nursing and sometimes the upbringing of infants to servants.

In early republican times, the education of Roman children was left very much in the hands of parents. Cato the Elder, in the second century BCE, refused to entrust his son’s upbringing to an educated Greek slave living in his own household. Instead, Plutarch tells us, Cato himself “taught his son reading and writing, the law, physical education, and all sorts of outdoor skills such as throwing the javelin, fighting in armor, riding boxing, swimming, and how to stand up to heat and cold.” Such a man would also expect his boy to follow him in the course of his public duties, whether to the temple for religious observance or to social events, including dinner parties-even to the Senate, if his father were a member.

Later Romans, however, increasingly entrusted their children to teachers, although there was never anything resembling a state school system. Wealthy families might employ a slave, like Cato’s educated Greek, to act as a private tutor. Less well-off parents sent their children from about the age of seven, whether boys or girls, to a schoolmaster to learn reading, writing, and arithmetic. These poorly paid individuals held classes in their own homes, or sometimes in rented stalls in the streets. Discipline was harsh, administered with the cane or leather belt. Children learned to write using bone or metal styluses on wax tablets, which could be wiped clean and reused-papyrus rolls were too expensive for school exercises.

Primary schooling came to an end at about age eleven. Following this, the majority of girls were educated at home, learning how to run a household-cooking, spinning, weaving, fetching water, or, if the parents were well-off, giving orders to domestic slaves, Boys, however, might pass on into the hands of a Grammaticus, Rome’s equivalent of a secondary-school teacher, to study Greek and Romans literature. The more ambition students might then go on to a rhetorician for lessons in oratory in preparation for a career in public life or the law.

Of the two languages of learning, Greek carried the greater prestige, and some fortunate students went to Greece to complete their education. For poorer parents, the choices were much more stark, even to the point of infanticide. A letter sent to his pregnant wife by a legionary serving in Egypt acts as a reminder of the realities of parenthood for much of the population: “If you give birth to a boy, keep it. If it is a girl, expose it. Try not to worry. I’ll send the money as soon as we get paid.”

Most Romans lived quite frugally. They ate breakfasts consisting of little more than bread and fruit, perhaps with olives and honey. By imperial times it was normal to have a light lunch (prandium) shortly before noon.

The main meal (cena) was taken around sunset, when the day’s work was finished.

The poor lived mainly on porridge of ground wheat with water, known as puls; this staple could be rendered more appetizing and nutritious by the addition of some cheese, honey, or an egg, if such ingredient were available. In republican days the elder Cato, an economically minded employer, recommended feeding slaves on bread, windfall olives, oil, salt, cheap wine, and the dregs off fish sauce.

In Rome itself, the poorest free citizens could count on the corn dole to protect them from starvation. Initially introduced as a subsidized food scheme by the consul Gaius Gracchus (ca. 160-121BCE), this project was vastly extended at Julius Caesar’s behest as a way of securing support and subsequently became a fixture of life in the capital. Under its terms, a given number of individuals (200,000 under Augustus, although the number varied over the centuries) received handouts of free wheat each months. The cost was borne by the state out of general taxation.

Those Romans who were eligible for the corn dole were happy to receive it, even if their needs were not great. In early imperial times, most citizens could in fact afford to eat well, and a wide range of produce was available. Fish was generally more plentiful than meat, although pork a firm favorite. There was a good variety of poultry, game birds, and wildfowl. Shellfish were esteemed, including oysters raised in artificial beds. Many different types of bread were produced. Romans ate eggs and cheese in large quantities, but regarded butter as a food for barbarians; their principal fat was olive oil.

Apart from water, the only drink that was consumed in large amounts was wine, which was usually diluted with water. Archaeologists have noted that grape pips that have been discovered only appear in strata under the capital from the last quarter of the seventh century BCE on, so it is possible that the cultivation of vines was not native to Latium and was introduced, like so much else, by the Etruscans. certainly, a taste for the grape subsequently spread throughout the Roman Empire, and the only provinces that were without vineyards were northern Gaul and Britain, where the climate at the time was not propitious.

While the majority of Romans may have lived relatively abstemiously, the new rich of imperial times became famous for their excesses. As the empire grew wealthier, its people became greedier. In Nero’s day, the philosopher Seneca accused his fellow- citizens of “eating till they vomited and of vomiting in order to eat more.”

A taste for conspicuous consumption followed the increase in prosperity brought about by the spread of trade. Exotic delicacies became fashionable, and wealthy diners regaled themselves with specialties like roast peacock, mullets’ livers, and flamingos’ tongues. the gourmet Apitcius, to whom the only surviving Roman cookbook is ascribed, provides a menu for boiled ostrich. “Bring pepper, mint, roasted cumin, parsley-seed, dates, honey, vinegar, cooking wine, fish stock, and a little oil to the boil in a saucepan. thicken the sauce with cornflour. Pour over the pieces of ostrich meat in a serving dish and sprinkle with pepper.”

Expectations

Expectations… something that most of the times leads to disappointments. Expecting too much in life thus, is not a good idea. Especially from others. The reason being, you will most probably not get what you want. Everyone on this planet is selfish, yes, including me, including you. Every person for himself/herself. There are times when you yourself don’t live up to your expectations, forget others. You promise yourself something, but never get around to do it.

Yes, you may have friends. A lot if good friends. But how many of them can you take for granted? Not just friends. Family too. Each one has their own lives to live. I am not saying that they are wrong. It is you, who expects so much from them, who is wrong.

Think of it this way. There must be someone who takes you for granted, but you don’t really pay attention to them, because you have better things to do. The same thing applies for you. The person whom you take for granted has better things to do.

And if you find a person, who will leave whatever he/she is doing for you, a person who will do anything for you, a person whom you expect a lot from and who meets your expectations every single time, a person you will take for granted at some point, make sure, that this person will never leave you. People like these are a rare species, and if you loose this one person, you may never find another like them. Keep in mind though, they will take you for granted too, and you need to return the favor, by living up to their expectations.

Online Backgammon: As Easy and Exciting

Playing Backgammon online has no difference when playing it in an actual casino. The rules of the game are the same except that you need not to come face-to-face with your opponent. That is the real wonder of online gambling. It lets you enjoy the goodness of many casino games without requiring you to go out of your way and travel to a gambling site. You may very well be in your pajamas and still come playing yet you are given more opportunities to get in touch with people from all over the world. Indeed, the introduction of online gambling is a milestone in the gaming world.

Among the countless casino games that were given the Internet makeover, Backgammon is one of those that is as easy and as exciting to play. Anybody who is new to gambling can instantly learn how it is being carried out. Basically, the objective of Backgammon players is to try to beat the other in bearing off their checkers after they are moved into their respective home boards. Two opposing players characterize a game. Each is given equal number of checkers and equal chances of moving their checkers around the board, which are determined through the throw of a pair of dice. The first move that opens the game is awarded to the player who throws the higher number. After that, players will take turns in moving their checkers.

There are twenty-four points in a Backgammon board. The checkers pass through these points by way of the number of moves a player throws. The number of checker moves may be carried out in any combination for as long as the checkers occupy an open point. Different situations require different decisions. A player who has a good foresight gets an advantage in winning a Backgammon game because he is more likely to make the right decisions at any given situation. This kind of skill that is required to champion online Backgammon can be earned through constant practice. Although luck is obviously figured in the game, the player's skill still makes the difference. A skilled player can turn all his opportunities into good moves while an inept one can throw all his good opportunities right into the garbage.

If you are seriously thinking about winning on a Backgammon game, you may determine your skill level by downloading a free game software. You can also do practice games there, which are utterly helpful in winning games consistently.
